"Since English, and specifically American Standard English, is the primary language of this wiki, game consoles will be referred to primarily by the name they were released under in the United States." It doen't make any sense to me, and I see no logical relation there since the original jananese names are english anyway... If Final Fantasy VI wasn't re-released in the USA in FFAnthology, then we would call it "Final Fantasy III" ??? Not using original names will lead to such confusion IMO.--X-or 11:51, 30 Oct 2005 (EST)

Final Fantasy is a special case because of the numbering system confusion in the United States. Remember, not all Japanese console/game names are English. If we're going for maximum fidelity, we should start calling it the 任天堂ファミコン. Obviously that's a bit overboard, but you see my point.--Gau 11:58, 30 Oct 2005 (EST)
Oh well, if that means that much to you, go for the localized names then... =) --X-or 12:14, 30 Oct 2005 (EST)
Well I'm not trying to be militant about it. On the other hand, Wikipedia generally follows the same logic.--Gau 12:20, 30 Oct 2005 (EST)
The Sega Mega Drive is called "Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis" on wiki. IMO, it depends on who writes the article. Some people see the USA as the center of the world (like Jews and Christians used to believe Earth was on the center of the universe), while others have a more of a worldwide vision. I think systems should prmarily be refered to their original names (japanese mostly; US for xbox, 3DO and other systems created on the usa). The most accurate name for the NES isn't "ファミコン" since it's not what is written on the system console, it's "Nintendo Family Computer" but I go for "Nintendo Famicom" since it's more commonly known. Anyway it's up to you admins to decide, and you should decide quickly because the site is a real mess for now. Games and system names are rather unaccurate overall. You got to decide quickly consistent naming conventions for both games and system. For accurate game names, I would like to recommand you No-Intro which is by far the most accurate ROM preservation project (now even Cowering is copying us).

Color/Colour

In accordance with American Standard English, "color" is the proper spelling. However, there are quite a few occurences of "colour" (7 pages found containing "colour"). Should they be cleaned up or not? 64.5.15.136 17:46, 12 July 2007 (EDT)
