C986 : Button inputs (held) C987 : Button inputs (pressed) C988 : In the Japanese version, incremented as buttons are pressed on the title screen. Bit 0 determines if the current title screen selected option is START or PASSWORD. The PASSWORD featured seems to have been removed from the English version, as in the Japanese version C988 can be changed in RAM, after the Konami logo appears and the cursor memory will still change. Changing that bit does nothing in the English version.
