Chinese-to-English NES bootleg requests are being deleted by someone

Yep. Tcaudilllg (talk)

It was Gary Oak: http://datacrystal.romhacking.net/wikid/index.php?title=Translations_Request_List&diff=28106&oldid=28105 Tcaudilllg (talk)
There's no need to post several messages in a row, just edit the previous one. And you should talk of the issue with him on his talk page : User talk:Gary Oak --Mantidactyle (talk) 09:23, 4 November 2014 (EST)
I don't intend to. He's being an ass and talking to him about it will just be a reward. Eh they'll get translated someday. It's not a big deal... the point is this: when you have a guy henning and pecking about what to include and not to include in a resource intended to be all-inclusive, it really doesn't speak to the reliability of the resource. Tcaudilllg (talk)
Don't ever contribute to a wiki if you have that kind of reasoning. If you don't want to talk with him about the issue, do not whine about it. --Mantidactyle (talk) 05:07, 28 November 2014 (EST)
Strong words for the co-founder of the project. You'd better do a good job, 'cause you just alienated thousands of people. It's all on your shoulders now, bucko. Tcaudilllg (talk)
We wouldn't have put the effort into making this resource if we didn't suspect that a few norms would be obeyed. Like for example, respecting people's right to make requests. It speaks poorly of you that you would allow that perfectly relevant and legitimate requests not be permitted to stay on the page. It's not for you to judge whose requests are proper or not. If a person determines to delete others' requests, then if the requests are not duplicates of existing requests then that person should be censured. Tcaudilllg (talk) 02:50, 1 December 2014 (EST)
... What ? I just said that if you don't want to talk to Gary Oak about the issue, you shouldn't whine about it. I didn't erase anything, Gary Oak did. The edit you mentioned dates from nearly one year ago. What are the advantages of posting here about that issue rather than on Gary Oak's user page; or better, on the forums ? I don't care if you are the co-founder of the project. You are on a Wiki, your work is prone to be edited by anyone. If the way it is done does not suit you, you should talk about it with the person concerned or post about it on the forums.--Mantidactyle (talk) 07:56, 1 December 2014 (EST)

suggestion: add a vote column

So the most requested translations are more visible... eadmaster (talk)

Completely pointless. The translators don't care about what games are in demand, because they do not receive compensation for their work. Gideon Zhi has repeatedly emphasized that his intention is to translate obscure games. This list is basically intended as a go-to point for translators looking to peruse potential projects, while allowing people to request retranslations of already translated works (although the odds are pretty slim that people who know both Japanese and English will bother to translate these over untranslated works unless heavily censored or otherwise butchered). Additionally, this is an English-only list. Tcaudilllg (talk) 02:22, 30 May 2015 (EDT)
Having used the list recently to pickup a new project that I had never heard about, it would have been interesting to see votes if there was a mechanism to then connect those people to be translators, play testers, etc for the project. Wether its voted high or not wouldn't have too much influence as i'm doing this in my spare time. Personal fulfillment and aptitude to finish it will drive me more than public demand. Also, building a list has the side effect of making people feel like whatever is voted up *has to be done* if there are resources available to do it. This is simply not true for projects that have few volunteers. At the end of the day i'm going to pick a project that looks to be at my level and covers a subject matter that I can have fun with. Thus, I do think it would be really interesting to tie votes to some commitment to a project. Flyingclimber (talk) 18:25, 8 February 2016 (EST)
I agree. Not only pointless, but detrimental. We'd get a lot of unwelcome attention and a lot of votes for anything derived from recently aired anime. (and once those games were translated (at great legal risk, in some cases), interest in obscure titles and franchises would prove unchanged. Tcaudilllg (talk) 14:35, 16 May 2017 (EDT)

i've found this extension that could be used Eadmaster (talk) 21:54, 9 February 2024 (UTC)

Suggestion: Sailor Moon Games Translated, Manga/Crystal & DIC/Cloverway Style

I know there are some games that got translations. However, I feel that some of the literal translations feel so...artificial. That and there are other Sailor Moon games that have yet to receive translations of their own. If it helps, and if anyone is willing, I wish to see translations of the Sailor Moon games done with the DIC/Cloverway style as well as the Manga/Crystal style. That way, all fans of either styles will be very satisfied. And honestly, I wouldn't mind playing SMR SNES or Another Story in the DIC/Cloverway style, if it's okay.--Julayla (talk) 12:02, 11 April 2017 (EDT)

  • OK, I'm gonna be straight with you: DIC/Cloverway was not just a mediocre dubbing... it was an explicit corruption of the original material. If the mangaka were to actually watch an episode of the show, she'd doubtless be outraged, because it not only sanitizes but also revises everything for orthodox Christian sensibilities, which are completely opposed to Takeuchi's intention. I agree the honorifics seem out of place, and yet, not so when you consider that there is actually a very real hierarchy among these "friends". It's the way Japanese is and you can't translate the plot effectively without alluding to the precise nature of the relationships. Seriously, Jadeite is now president of the United States. How does a chauvinist cheat become leader of the free world? It starts with the caricature of Japanese villains as Darth Vader clones instead of the more realistic personality profiles the Japanese intend to steer their children away from emulating by depicting them as villains in their work (and don't even dispute this, it goes back to Tezuka). If you want to show respect to the franchises you love, then leave these translations as they are and embrace modern, accurate interpretations of the original. Available on NetFlix right now. Go watch it. Tcaudilllg (talk) 14:56, 16 May 2017 (EDT)
    • I guess that means I'm suppose to force to like the purist stuff and never ever talk about the latter ever again unless I'm going to be bullied and cyber bullied for it. Because all purists are right and I'm not allowed any opinion unless I'm forced to be liking what they like because I deserve to be bullied. Is that what you mean?--Julayla (talk) 00:44, 15 January 2021 (EST)

Removal of the Notes Column

What is the reasoning behind removing the notes column for translation requests? This appeared to have been an active source of updated information regarding the status of WIP projects, and resources such as links to videos or further information related to the game requested.Filler (talk) 02:46, 5 March 2018 (EST)

We will re-add something similar in the future once we have guidelines in place. We had issues with users adding 15+ links to irrelevant sites in the notes columns for some games. --Danke (talk) 23:38, 5 March 2018 (EST)
Understood. Filler (talk) 00:15, 6 March 2018 (EST)

Some Sailor Moon Games Not Translated

I was relooking at the translations that were completed and noticed that a lot of Sailor Moon games are not translated. One of the Gameboy games is kinda but the ones who translated the game never finished. I would like to see a translation of the Gameboy Sailor Moon games, the Sailor Moon Collection PC Engine, and at least the Sailor Moon Saturn & Playstation fighting games. I would like to see how they're handled.Julayla (talk) 15:16, 14 January 2021 (EST)

Target language of translation?

Are the lists on this page only for requesting English translations of games that are not in English? How would someone request a translation into a language besides English? (Does anyone ever request a translation into a language besides English?) --Bavi H (talk) 18:26, 10 July 2022 (EDT)
