Miscellaneous

Before Squaresoft made this game, they were an unsuccessful video game company on the verge on bankruptcy. So they decided to borrow a few elements from Dungeons and Dragons and a few more from their own ideas, and they made the game Final Fantasy. Ever since then, most of Squaresoft's profits have been made from games in the Final Fantasy series.

The name "Final Fantasy" comes from Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the series; he intended to retire after this game was made, hence the name (a commonly-repeated but untrue version holds that it was intended to be Square's last game). The game was very successful, changing his mind about retiring and making Square one of the most successful game companies, with the Final Fantasy series its flagship franchise.
