Hostname only?

Last time I added to this I added some keywords that appear in most of the spams (viagra etc.), from looking at the latest spamfest it didn't work. Upon reading the instructions more carefully, I noticed it actually only works on the hostname part of the URL. Why does it work this way? This makes it impossible to use the blacklist to prevent future spams. Goplat 22:20, 17 May 2006 (EDT)

Yeah, that is annoying, but that's how it works. If there is a better way to do the blocking, I'm listening. Maybe the script we are using could be modified to look at the whole URL... --AnyoneEB 19:05, 19 May 2006 (EDT)

If it is a problem, the user is free to complain here, and we will fix it if the site is valid. I do not think anyone is using the domain romspecialists.net, so we probably do not have to worry about it. --AnyoneEB 15:23, 18 June 2006 (EDT)

Locked?

There has to be some way to edit this guys, come on thats why we keep getting spammed. Someone unlock this and make it so only registered users can edit it so we can block the current stream of spam. Koolboyman 14:13, 25 July 2007 (EDT)

For obvious security reasons, this page is locked to admins only. (That is, otherwise, the spammers would just clear it.) This discussion page is unlocked so common users may post recommendations for the blacklist. Feel free to post links to spam diffs here with lists of sites in the format used by the blacklist.

We get legitimate edits from anonymous posters, and I personally find registration requirements on wikis rather annoying. Also, the spammers can just register accounts automatically.

Obviously the system is not working. The current admins, including myself, do not have the time to police every edit. In the near future, I have a bit more free time, so I will look into a better solution to the spam problem.
